This is one of the things that a lot of people overlook and simply “trust” that everything (timing pointer and balancer) is correct. But if something is off, and you do not know exactly where your top dead center is located and what your timing point shows at TDC, you could be in trouble. I had verified TDC previously, but since I was about to degree the camshaft I wanted to verify everything was still where it was suppose to be.
